Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics.  Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term.  Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates.  Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.

Lymphatic Drainage

The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical to our body’s ability to drain stagnant fluids and maintain a healthy immune system.  It is a complex system comprised primarily of lymph vessels and nodes working in cooperation to accomplish these tasks. Unlike the circulatory system, which uses the pumping of the heart to circulate its blood flow, lymph vessels rely upon hundreds of tiny muscular units (lymphangions) contracting throughout the body to propel lymph flow.  These contractions enable the lymph vessels to transport numerous substances (i.e.. proteins, toxins, hormones, fatty acids, immune cells) to lymph nodes for processing, determining what can be made into you and what needs to be eliminated.  The action of these muscular units can be hindered or stopped, however, due to surgery, trauma, burns, infections, substantial swelling, fatigue, stress or age.  When the lymph circulation stagnates, the substances mentioned will accumulate, significantly compromising cellular functioning.  This may open the way to many physical ailments and hasten the aging process. Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) is an extremely gentle (5 grams of pressure) hands-on technique designed to attain and sustain proper functioning of the human fluid system.  In essence, LDT works to help re-circulate body fluids, stimulate functioning of the immune system, and balance the autonomic nervous system.  It is shown that when these actions are accomplished, the results may be;

  • Reduction in edemas of many origins
  • Relief of chronic and sub acute inflammation and conditions such as acne, eczema and allergies
  • Immune system stimulation for preventive and therapeutic effects
  • Regeneration of tissues (e.g., from burns and pre-and post-surgical scarring and anti-aging effects
  • Detoxification of the body
  • Relief of chronic pain
  • Deep relaxation to aid insomnia, depression, stress, loss of vitality and loss of memory
  • Reduction in the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia
  • Reduction of adiposis and cellulite tissue
I am involved in the training of the LDT system developed by Bruno Chikly, MD.DO.  At this time my level of education and experience does not include working with patients who suffer lymphedema due to the removal of lymph nodes as in the case of some caner treatments.  LDT is highly beneficial for this condition but it is extremely important to work with a practitioner who is certified in Lymphedema treatment protocols.  To find such a practitioner check the online directory available through the Upledger Institute at www.upledger.com.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing that cleanses and balances the energy patterns in the body. As a result, the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum mental, emotional, and physical health.
During a session, I work in energetic connection with you in order to remove blockages, detoxify your energy system, and restore your vital life force energy.  The Reiki technique utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us.  The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.

SOMA Neuromuscular Integration

SOMA, through a ten-session structured format, is a system of bodywork, which works by way of the fascial (connective tissue) network to release chronic structural aberrations, and effectively realign the entire body.

As the term neuromuscular implies, SOMA Neuromuscular Integration® affects both neurological and muscular systems. Changes in structure are accomplished primarily through manipulation of fascia and muscles, whereas the neurological work is done on both physiological as well as psychological levels. Work in each area affects the other, so structural improvement is seen as much a function of neurological change as it is fascial manipulation.

As the body rebalances itself in gravity, becoming more efficient in function and healthier with greater resistance to disease and injury, people notice more coordination and grace in movement.  The result is a body that can process experiences more effectively, with greater awareness, which leads to enhanced learning and perceptual abilities. Qualities like self-reliance and creativity spontaneously emerge.

Life is change and change is movement, movement in our bodies, our feelings, our thougts and inspirations.  It is the loss of our ability to move and change our bodies, as well as our thinking processes, that continually diminishes our ability to fully experience life.  In SOMA we are softening the "hard wiring" and accessing more somatic options.  We are not working toward the evolution of a "perfect person" by replacing old patterns with new "right ones," but rather towards a less predictable, more authentic individual who has the option to respond in new and creative ways to their enviroment.

SOMA is an incredible journey through your body/mind that has compounding benefits long after the sessions are completed.
If you are considering the commitment neccessary for this work feel free to contact me for more information.  Session One can be a stand alone session for an experience of the work, as can sessions one through three be.  Once we get into the core of the body which begins at session four it will be imperative to complete the remaining sessions.
